THE ARMED FORCES OF PAKISTAN,Challenges in the days ahead:
By: Prof. Dr. Gholam Mujtaba
The memory of 1971 debacle of the former East Pakistan haunts the pride of Pakistanis, yet there are few who celebrate this humiliation at the hands of Pakistan’s arch rival, India. Mr. Altaf Hussain of the MQM celebrated that day in New Delhi and declared the creation of Pakistan as the greatest blunder in the history of mankind.
The President’s late father criticized the founder of the country in his TV interview.
A prime Medical institution of the country bearing the name of the founder of the country was replaced with Bhutto through a National Assembly resolution.
The Indian influence in the region is being constantly promoted. Bangladesh, the breakaway former province of Pakistan is under a grip of India, while the Pakistani government and its allied parties are strongly associated with the Indian establishment, such as the MQM.
India, rightly through its strategy seizes all opportunities to undermine the strength of Pakistan’s armed forces. A weaker Pakistan would be subservient to Indian designs.
General Agha Yahya in association with political conspirators had humiliated Pakistan’s Armed forces by design. The present Zardari is no different who is using all means to cripple the role of the military.
An intriguing question is about the role of the present leadership of the military. I am afraid; a new chapter in history is in the making by the present civilian government that is damaging to the pride of that institution.
Mehran Bank scandal defacing the ISI, limiting ISI or the military’s political role, General Musharraf’s disgrace, public reaction towards the corrupt civilian government etc. are detrimental to the pride and prestige of an institution that is entrusted to secure internal and external security of the country.
However, the public perception of the military is an all time low today.
The 1971 witnessed a passive role of the army promoted by certain leaders of its institution. Would that history be repeated, if the civilian leadership under the cover of promoting democracy, which in fact is a corrupt KLEPTOCRACY, undermined the aggressive role of the armed forces?
PAKISTAN DEFINITELY NEEDS A “SUPERVISED DEMOCRACY” where the thugs, cheaters, bank defaulters, anti Pakistan elements were CERTIFIED as “SADIQ & AMEEN” by its JUDICIARY. Undermining the role of the armed forces is tantamount to compromising NATIONAL SECURITY.
The role of military leadership and the undercurrents amongst the mainstream middle managers should not differ. It was unusual to witness when a group of military officers protested on Friday against what they called humiliating treatment being meted out to former military ruler retired Gen Pervez Musharraf, reports the ideastowin049.blogspot.com
