English football still has toxic elements but weekend violence was the exception not the norm in today's game

Inside the home of football, police wielding batons waded into a group of brawling supporters. Fists and kicks were aimed in their direction and a small girl cried inside Wembley as the violence exploded around her during Millwall’s 2-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat.
